AWF Consulting was founded in 2008 by myself, Alexander Wever. Today, AWF Consulting is an established management consultancy specialising exclusively in the seafood industry.
I support companies in the seafood industry with business management issues and advise companies in other sectors of the economy on all topics relating to fish and seafood. The focus of my work is on market analyses, market research and the development of tailor-made marketing and market entry concepts. The aim is always to present complex interrelationships in an understandable way and to create a basis for decision-making that is reliable and realisable in practice.
My clients are national and international companies - from owner-managed seafood businesses to global food corporations. I attach particular importance to a practical approach that does not end in theoretical models but leads to clear recommendations for action.
In addition, I have been representing the interests of national and international non-profit organisations in the German-speaking and Northern European markets for many years.
I have been working full-time in the fish and seafood sector for over two decades. This practice-orientated career is complemented by a degree in business administration (Diplom-Kaufmann). This combination of sound academic training and many years of operational experience forms the foundation of my current consultancy work and has enabled me to build up a wide-ranging network based on personal relationships.
Specialising in fish and seafood enables me to offer consulting services with a breadth and depth that is rare in German-speaking countries. This includes in particular the detailed analysis of value chains and sales channels, the assessment of consumer and buyer preferences and the development of complex, market-oriented calculation models for seafood products.
In addition to strategic issues, my work also includes very practice-oriented topics - such as planning fish departments, designing and organising seminars, specialist articles and presentations for the industry.
I have been representing national and international non-profit organisations in the seafood industry in German-speaking countries for many years. I see this task as both a vote of confidence and a responsibility.
I ensure that my clients' positions are recognised by relevant stakeholders and that their goals can be achieved more efficiently - whether in the trade press, at trade fairs and congresses or in direct dialogue with decision-makers. In doing so, I draw on a personal network of several hundred decision-makers in the international seafood community that I have built up over many years.
„Since 2008, we have been working with Alexander Wever from AWF-Consulting, whom we have come to know and appreciate as a competent and independent expert on the German seafood market. As part of this collaboration, Alexander Wever has written a large number of articles on the German seafood market and business management issues for Fischmagazin.“
„BordBia, The Irish Food Board, has been working with AWF Consulting since 2009 to promote Irish seafood products. Alexander provides us with valuable market insights for the German speaking countries and BeNeLux. He has also organised trips for Irish seafood producers to target markets such as Germany and Switzerland and trips for European buyers to Ireland.“
„With his extensive network in the German seafood industry, Alexander Wever is a highly valued advisor for our strategic development. We value his extensive product knowledge and his ability to turn complex problems into simple, practicable solutions, for example when it comes to calculation models that secure margins.“
Together with my clients, I develop customised calculation models that take into account the special characteristics of fish products - such as currency fluctuations, volatile purchase prices and different forms of spoilage. Among other things, rolling purchase prices and flexible calculation mark-ups are used.
I survey and analyse how end consumers, buyers and other market players perceive products. The results are analysed and interpreted in a structured manner. I also compile primary and secondary statistical analyses.
I analyse market sizes, value chains, price levels and potential customers - both nationally and internationally. I also prepare neutral expert opinions and independent marketing reports, including for funding applications under the EMFAF.
Together with my clients, I develop customised concepts for purchasing, sales and marketing. These are consistently orientated towards the product, the target markets and the individual starting situation of the company.
With the experience of over 150 fish seminars, I design and realise training courses for employees at fish counters, managers, buyers and end consumers. Well-trained employees are often the decisive competitive advantage.
I provide support in the development of marketing and communication measures - from print campaigns and CI/CD to content for digital media. In press relations, I utilise my network in the national and international trade press to place topics in a targeted manner and prepare content professionally.
The biological wealth of the oceans and inland waters is one of the most valuable resources of our society. In my view, responsible utilisation of this resource is an essential prerequisite for the sustainability of the seafood industry.
AWF Consulting is expressly committed to the sustainable utilisation of fisheries and aquaculture resources. I support all endeavours that promote economically viable and at the same time responsible fishing and aquaculture. This includes in particular
I do not see sustainability as a marketing term, but as an integral part of viable business models.
